AEG is pleased to announce a long term licensing deal with PHOENIX Interactive GmbH to publish and support the Warlord CCG. The team at PHOENIX Interactive GmbH acted quickly after realizing that there might be room for a deal, and AEG was excited to be able to work with Arne Reuter and his team again.

PHOENIX Interactive GmbH president Arne Reuter was in large part responsible for the surge of player interest in Warlord in Europe over the years. He plays host to the largest Warlord event each year, KoHiT, which draws hundreds of players from around the world.

“Arne has put together a good team and good plan for moving forward with Warlord,” said Brent Keith, Lead Game Designer for AEG. “Arne has already proven to have a very deep love for the product and property as well as the tools to build a strong, well supported customer base. We at AEG believe there is no better home for the game.”

The official transfer of data and information will happen during February of this year. From now until end of June AEG will continue to send out support and event kits, and will work closely with PHOENIX Interactive GmbH to give them all the tools they need for a successful re-launch of the Warlord game.

Arne Reuter, owner of PHOENIX Interactive GmbH, noted “John Zinser and I have been friends for a long time. We have been discussing the possibility of this since Essen of last year, but just recently were we all able to put the pieces together. We are very excited about the possibilities and look forward to adding to an already great legacy of the game.”

John Zinser, President of AEG, added “This deal represents more than just a good business for AEG. It is also an opportunity for me, as a fan of Warlord, to enjoy the game as a player and not a publisher. This may not sound like much, but publishing your favorite game and playing your favorite game are very different things. I look forward to sitting on the other side of the table, dice in hand, just for fun.”

With the soon to launch online version of Warlord in beta test, AEG is handing the reins for the Warlord CCG to On the Go Games. AEG is giving On The Go games full support to re-launch and revise Epic Edition and beyond. We certainly hope that you will give this fun new evolution of the game a try at www.warlordonline.com.

Warlord is one of the top-selling and longest-running CCGs of all time and is a big part of the identity of AEG as a producer of quality CCGs and game experiences. We are very proud of not only the game, but the programs that have allowed us to support this game for such a long time. AEG would like to thank all of the people who have been involved in the game during the last seven years from designers, play testers, volunteers, Dragon and Medusan Lord runners, and retailers who have allowed us to publish this great game.

While AEG will no longer be publishing new printed cards for the game, support for the product line will continue in the form of new Medusan Lords and event packages being available for stores and bounty hunters through our player support programs.

Also, look for many of your favorite Warlord characters to make an appearance in AEG’s upcoming board game — TOMB.

The goal of the Medusan and Dragon Lords programs are to create tough challenges for top players and create puzzle decks and characters that are both difficult to decipher and even harder to beat. The days of the unbeatable Medusan are not behind us, but we will be introducing new handicapping rules that will force the runners to be on top of their game to deal with the changes.

The players are getting better so we need to work together. The AEG Advisory Forum Members are planning to reveal our hive-mind Medusan Lord when the Advisory Board completes its mission in mid to late October. We promise he will be like nothing we have revealed before.

Also, Chris Pflanz is now hard at work with the design team to bring his new Medsuan Lord to reveal as quickly as we can. Chris is great player, well liked by the community and is going out of his way to make sure he represents the program in the very best light. We can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

KoHIT VI: Gathering of Friends

KoHIT is always one of the biggest Warlord events each year. Certainly the largest European Warlord event, KoHit is expected to host over 50 players from at least five countries. Along with the main event, several side events including Medusan Lord Challenges, Dragon Lords and Overlords, if you live in Eruope, or plan on being on that continent during that time, this is the epicenter for everything Warlord. AEG will once again be sending additional support to this perennial event so have your cards sleeved and your decks at the ready.
